2. Chanioporta

The Chanioporta district is west of the historic centre. As its name suggests, it is located at the entrance of the medieval city of Heraklion, near the Venetian wall. You can easily reach all the attractions of the centre on foot.

This friendly neighborhood is among the best places to stay in Heraklion. Accommodation is on average cheaper than in the centre. But above all, you will be closer to the beaches located to the west, in the district of Agia Marina. If you have rented a vehicle upon arrival, you will also find more free seats to park it.

3. Kainourgia Porta – New door

Like the previous quarter, Kainourgia Porta is located at the entrance of the historic city, along the Venetian ramparts. Located south of the city centre, the Nouvelle Porte district also has more affordable housing.

The attractions of the centre are easily accessible on foot. This allows you to discover the historic centre in all tranquility, and even enjoy the nightlife. This neighborhood is one of the best places to stay in Heraklion!

4. Agia Marina

5. Karteros – Agios Ioannis

This small village and this neighborhood are located in the east of the Cretan capital. Coast by side, they are located near the airport and thus on the outside of the city. Karteros is known for its beautiful beach of Amnissos. This small village houses several residences, hotels and very comfortable Airbnb apartments. Far from the noise of the city, you can enjoy the beach and the unique atmosphere of the Crete.

Attention however: the area is poorly served by public transport. So it's better to have your own vehicle. You can easily reach the heart of Heraklion or discover the rest of the island from your charming accommodation in Karteros or Agios Ioannis.

6. Agia Pelagia

Agia Pelagia is located quite far northwest of Heraklion. This village (and seaside resort) is however a great place to stay in Crete. Far from the tumult of the Cretan capital, you will enjoy here the sea, the sun and the calm. Agia Pelagia is surrounded by beautiful beaches and beautiful coves.

The fishing village also lacks charm with its small taverns and beachside restaurants. Lose yourself in the alleys, discover small picturesque establishments and enjoy the beautiful colors that enamel the houses.
