An artistic project in Jerusalem, Israel, offers a little shade to passers-by with flowers that open when you pass below
The pedestrians passing on Valero Square near the Mahane Yehuda Market in the heart of Jerusalem in Israel can find a little respite under these giant flowers. The latter were installed as part of the municipality’s effort to improve the urban space of the capital.
The four giant flowers, which are 9 metres high, were placed in key locations, allowing them to be seen all around the square and close to the market. Installed in 2014 by the agency HQ Architects , these flowers react to the movement of passersby. They give an impression of movement instead, because they “flow up” when the pedestrians walk below them, and close when there is no one.
When the trams arrive, the four flowers open to offer a pedestrian shelter while they descend from the tram. The project is called Warde and, in a hint of fantasy, also illuminates the night space.
