If you ask that you eat in Lisbon, know that the speciality of Lisbon is without a doubt gastronomic specialitiesa cod : in the capital, it is found in doughnut, dish, oven... But your stay in Lisbon should also introduce you to other classics of Portuguese cuisine, which you can enjoy throughout the country!
Cod and sardines, stars of the lisboète plate
A Portuguese saying that there would be as many cod recipes as days in the year... It is barely exaggerated: the little salty fish is undoubtedly the star of the lisboet cuisine. Among the most popular recipes, bacalhau à brás : the cod is cut into small filaments, and mixed with onions, very fine fries, eggs and olives. You can also eat it in doughnuts ( pastéis de bacalhau ), or olive oil ( bacalhau a lagareiro ).
Other speciality of Lisbon: sardinhas assadas (sardines grilled at barbecue). It is a speciality of Lisbon that we eat on the thumb for local parties, between neighbors, family or friends. You can also buy canned sardines and bring them back to your luggage... As a souvenir, we're hardly more typical of Lisbon!

Lisbon drinks: Sagres beer, vinho verde and ginjinha
Sagres beer is so widespread in the capital that it is nicknamed the Lisbon beer. Blonde and light, it is refreshing – without being exceptional. At the wine ray, taste the vinho verde . Called so because it is made with young grapes, it is very often white, but can also be red or rosé. Fresh, fruity and sparkling, it blends very well with seafood... Hence its omnipresence in Lisbon!
And above all, don't miss tasting in a bar la ginjinha (or ginja ), the cherry liqueur, famous for its sweet taste as for the small ritual that accompanies it. Order it com elas ("with them", implied "with cherries") or sem elas (without cherries). Careful: with almost 20% alcohol, the ginjinha is a real trap!
A few Portuguese specialties to taste in Lisbon
Want a break between two cod dishes? Enjoy the diversity of restaurants in the capital to taste Portuguese specialties: often based on seafood (but not that), the dishes are clearly under Mediterranean influence, but always marked with a touch of exotic spices, inherited from the colonial past of Portugal.
In aperitif, snack petiscos Portuguese tapas. Follow with a dish of octopus, like a polvo to lagareiro (poulp cooked in the oven with potatoes). Test the arroz de marisco (riz to crustaceans), caldo verde (national soup, composed mainly of green cabbage and choir, Portuguese sausage), or açorda, a soup with garlic and egg bread, eaten in Lisbon with seafood ( açorda de marisco ). For dessert, sweet followers will opt for dessert arroz doce (riz with sprinkled cinnamon milk), while fans of cheese will necessarily taste the azeitão a sheep cheese produced south of the Tage.
