Fort Kalavantin Durg near Panvel in India

Our planet is full of unsuspected places, mysterious places , places that seem to come out of all logic. Fort Kalavantin Durg India is one of them and it is not the hiking aficionados that will say the opposite.

What is the Kalavantin Durg?

Today considered one of the best hiking spots in the country, the Kalavantin Durg is a picturesque place to be discovered at almost 700 metres above sea level, close to the Prabalgad Plateau. It should be noted that it is often confused with Fort Prabalgad, which is very close, but both are different forts. It is located between the cities of Matheran and Panvel (near Mumbai) in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

It is a vertical rocky piton that houses Fort Kalavantin Durg, a fort built in 530 before our era in honor of a first-named princess... Kalavantin. This fort was then conquered by the Mongols during the 17th century before being abandoned.

Today, this fort is the subject of great hikes which are very appreciated by novices who seek strong emotions as by enlightened mators.

Not obvious trek

Nestled in the Sahuadri mountains, Fort Kalavantin Durg is a place not to be missed in India. But the place is quite incongru by its structure. Indeed, along this rocky piton, hundreds of steps have been cut to the rock to climb to the top and reach the fort and cave of Kalavantin Durg.

The immense stairway is lacking ropes and has no rowing either, which makes the ascent extraordinary, difficult, risky at times, as if you climb a gigantic stone snake on the side of the rock.

To climb up to the top and admire the fort and the panoramic view, it is important to have trained before to perform this rough trek. But once you arrive at the top, you will be recomposed as it should be: the view that offers to you is quite good to breathe. You will feel like you are alone in the world with an incredible silence that invites you to rest.

The hike to Fort Kalavantin de Durg lasts about 3 hours when you leave Shedung village .
