Visit Lesotho in one day from Durban in 4×4
The Lesotho is located at the tip of the African continent and it is a very surprising country by its extremely wild nature and the incredible beauty of the landscapes. Lesotho is surnamed the “King of Heaven” because the country is covered at more than 80% of mountains that sometimes make more than 3000 meters above sea level. It is a dry, dry, hard country but also a country of hiking that will be the paradise of all walkers. However, it is preferable to discover this region in 4×4 for more comfort.

From Durban , it is possible to go to the conquest of the great spaces of Lesotho : you first discover the wild fauna of Golden Gate Highlands National Park before entering a true Zoulou village. Immersion is total. Many villages in Lesotho can only be reached by walking or riding, or (but it’s more rare) with small planes: that’s why the 4×4 route is the most convenient and comfortable alternative to discover what is probably the highest country in Africa

Lesotho seems to be a forgotten land of men but also of nature: from Durban, you cross the Kwazulu-Natal lands before arriving to Underberg, which is a small town nestled at the foot of the Drakensberg mountain range. You then arrive at Sani Pass which is a mountain pass and which can only be crossed in 4×4. This is when you enter the Kingdom of Lesotho . The road is winding and dangerous, and you have to cross rivers on the road, without forgetting the taxis that descend at full speed, and the herds of goats on the way. A stopover in the village of Sotho is possible. A lunch is served in what is the highest pub in Africa where you can enjoy an incredible view of the surrounding mountains. At the end of this day, you're back in downtown Durban.
