A visit is required during your stay in Honduras! Here's all you need to know about your visit to Copan, this amazing archaeological site.

A little History on Copan

Just a few kilometers from the border with Guatemala, Copan Ruinas has developed thanks to tourism for several years. And for cause, this city is the gateway to Copan’s site, an impressive Maya site, still playful in the heart of the tropical jungle. Copan is indeed an ancient Mayan city, today classified as the world heritage of Unesco, and dating from the 7th century of our age.

The site is impressive because archaeologists believe that the first residents make Copan a place of residence from 1200 years before Jesus Christ, making it one of the oldest Mayan sites in the region. Thanks to extensive excavations, we can now admire the vestiges of civilization, including some beautiful mountain temples as well as the place of the ball game, which is one of the main spaces of any ancient Mayan city. Copan was one of the most powerful Mayan cities in the region with Chichen Itza Mexico and Tikal in Guatemala.
