Parking in Palermo: the rules of the ZTL

As is the custom in Italy, driving in the city centre is limited by a limited traffic area. Usually reserved for residents, these areas are allowed at certain times, only after paying a fee permit. In Palermo, the ZTL limits extend from Giulio Cesare Square to Cavour piarra Indipendenza Avenue and are active Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm and Saturday from 8am to 1pm.

But if you want to move in the ZTL, you will have to pay a daily pass that corresponds to the emission standard of your vehicle: count 5€ per day for a petrol car, and 2,50€ for a hybrid vehicle. And don’t try to sneak into the streets of Palermo to park: the area is controlled by surveillance cameras and the fine that you will receive when you return may be very salty.

Parking in Palermo: parking by road

To park in Palermo in the city center can quickly become a limestone: you will probably spend more time looking for a place than enjoying the beauties of Sicily. But this mission is not completely impossible: there are different districts that have parking spaces in the blue area at 1€ per hour. At this price there, the places are quickly taken on but with a bit of luck you will have to succeed in finding your happiness. These parking tickets are usually purchased in bars, buralists or shops.

To park easily in the streets of Palermo, you will have more luck on Monday morning or Sunday, when the shops are closed, or in the early afternoon, around 14h/14h30, when the Italians returned home to eat.

Unlike what one might believe, it is possible to find cheap car park in Palermo. For a day, you will pay a maximum of 12 to 20€.
