This map of the world shows the name of countries as their inhabitants call them
Cultural time for you: endonymie is the fact, for a name, of being regularly and commonly used by a population to designate itself or where it lives in its own language (Source: Wikipedia ).
A brilliant cartographer reinvented the world map in order to reflect the name of the country as donyms used by the inhabitants in the local language in force. An endonym refers to the name of a place used by the people who live there, and who can be different from universal names registered on world maps from the database United Nations Group of Experts on Geographical Names .
For the “endonym card”, the language that is most widely and currently adopted is used for the name of the country in case more than one national or official language is being used. For example, people living in Germany do not call their country “Germany”. Instead, they use the German endonym “ Deutschland”. Likewise for the United States that is locally called United States . This map allows you to know the real name of the country in its official language .
The cartographer admits that what disturbs him at the highest point is that places like South Africa and India have a dozen recognized languages, but there is room only for a name on the map. You can find out more about this map on the site EndonymMap.com (you can see more. The photos below do not allow to see all countries).
